Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension for another year
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Strengthen and expand contacts with German and international media representatives.
- Maintain regular contacts with relevant journalists.
- Take on a variety of speaking engagements and make presentations to different stakeholders.
- Place op-eds by senior UN officials.
- Distribute press and information material to selected target groups across multiple channels including social media.
- Assist the Desk Officer for Germany in the overall planning of recurrent information activities and special events, including visits and stop-overs of the Secretary-General and other senior UN officials, and ensure a smooth functioning of the Office in the absence of the Desk Officer.
- Contribute to the Office’s production of German-language press and information material.
- Propose information activities. Suggest efficient and targeted dissemination of information material produced.
- Make arrangements for high-level visits.
- Translate and tailor press releases, fact sheets and press kits.
- Strengthen contacts with Ministries, local authorities, relevant organizations and institutions.
- Attend activities and media events of above-mentioned institutions and organizations. Support their activities and initiate joint activities and cooperation.
- Prepare national press reviews as well as headlines for the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General.
Profile of qualification:
Education:
Advanced degree in journalism, international relations, economic sciences or related field.
Experience:
At least two years experience in the field of public information, public relations or journalism, preferably at international level.
Key Competencies:
Possession of good media contacts in Germany and ability to target media pro-actively.
Strong presentation skills. Ability to develop and implement communication strategies for various issues.
Familiarity with the United Nations system would be an advantage.
Good computer, internet and social media skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
Fluency in spoken and written English and German is essential. Knowledge of French or another official UN language is desirable.
